Painted around 1919 during his Early Years period (1917–1927), Pianc (Es Pianc) holds a special place in the early portfolio of fifteen-year-old Salvador Dalí. Es Pianc is a scenic waterfront area along the bay of Cadaqués in Catalonia, where Dalí spent formative childhood summers. Influenced by French Post-Impressionism and local Catalan modernists, young Dalí applied structured, rhythmic brushstrokes and rich chromatic contrasts to render the village’s signature whitewashed houses, sun-drenched stone quays, and shimmering turquoise harbor reflections. This early landscape highlights the unique coastal topography that continuously inspired Dalí throughout his artistic lifetime.
